Ok we have interwrite pads at our school and they are connected with the usb dongle. I am installing the interwrite workspace upgrade 8.80.
First thing I did was uninstall all old versions of software and then installed interwrite workspace 8.80, cps, workspace content and the exam view. Now the icon does not come up in the sys tray and when you open the interwrite software the device manager is greyed out.
Any ideas??

Please check your task manager to see if IW.exe is running under the processes tab. If not, please start the eInstruction Device Manager from the start menu. If it is running, there is most likely a com port which is blocking it. Please end the iw.exe process. Open the Windows device manager, disable com port 1 and then try to launch the eInstruction device manager. Continue this process until you figure out which com port is preventing the eInstruction Device Manager from launching.
